Two quotes arrive for the same item: black trash bags, 30 microns, 50 per roll. One is clearly cheaper. On paper the choice looks obvious.
Then the first container lands. The rolls hold 45 bags, not 50. The film measures thinner at the edges than in the middle. Your customer’s cleaning staff start double-bagging, and the saving disappears. Choosing a plastic bag supplier is less about the lowest number on the quote and more about whether that number describes the bag you will actually receive, every time.

Where a lower quote usually finds its margin
A price well below the market is rarely magic. It normally comes from one of a handful of places, and each one can be checked before you order.
| Where the saving hides | How to check it |
|---|---|
| Thinner film than quoted | Agree a micron tolerance in writing and measure samples at several points across the bag |
| Fewer bags per roll or pack | State the count on the order and spot-check cartons on arrival |
| More filler, less resin | Ask for the resin type and filler content on the quote |
| Smaller size or gusset | Specify width, length and gusset in millimetres, not “standard size” |
| Lighter cartons and packing | Agree carton strength, carton count and pallet pattern before production |
None of these are unusual tactics. They are simply what happens when the specification is left loose. Our trash bag size chart is a good starting point if you need to pin sizes down.
The costs that never appear on a quote
Bags that split cost you product, labour and goodwill. Lots that vary in size jam dispensers and slow packing lines. A late container can mean emergency air freight, or buying locally at a higher price to keep shelves full.
Communication matters too. Hours spent chasing updates, correcting invoices and fixing a wrong print are real costs, even if nobody books them against packaging. And over-specifying is just as wasteful. A film thicker than the job needs is money spent on resin your customer never notices.
Comparing suppliers in five steps
- Write one specification and send it to every supplier: material (HDPE, LDPE or LLDPE, virgin or with recycled content), micron with tolerance, dimensions, count, colour, print and packing. Add the destination port.
- Check that each quote repeats your specification back to you. A quote that leaves out the micron or the count is not comparable.
- Ask about MOQ per size and per print design, and whether different items can share a container.
- Test samples in real use. Put them in the actual bins, dispensers or packing line they are meant for.
- Place a trial order before committing a full programme, and use pre-shipment inspection if your process calls for it.

What you can expect from Hanpak
Hanpak has been exporting for more than 20 years, to customers in over 50 countries including the US, Europe, Japan and Korea. These are the terms we work to:
- Quotes: within 48 hours of receiving a full specification.
- Samples: stock samples are free. Custom samples made to your spec may carry a fee, and we tell you before we start.
- MOQ: flexible, quoted per size and design.
- Lead time: 4–6 weeks for a first order and 3–4 weeks for repeat orders, counted from sample approval.
- Traceability: a lot number on every pack, and production photos sent while your order runs.
- Terms: FOB, CIF or CFR, with payment by T/T or L/C.
Our factories operate to ISO 9001 quality management standards. For food-contact items, the resin complies with FDA 21 CFR 177.1520, and SGS test reports are available for many products.
If you are switching suppliers, we usually suggest posting us a few bags you use today, plus a photo of the carton label. Measuring a real bag (thickness at several points, gusset depth, seal width, roll core) is quicker and more reliable than a specification sheet that may not have been updated in years. It also shows up any gap between what you think you buy and what you actually receive.
