Why Source from Vietnam

Many US and European importers now buy part of their plastic bags and film from Vietnam instead of relying on one country for everything. This page sets out what that looks like with Hanpak: what you gain, what to check on duties, and how to place a first order without taking a big risk.

Why buyers add a Vietnamese supplier

Spread your supply risk

A second source in another country keeps your shelves full when one market is hit by new duties, port delays or a factory shutdown.

Real Vietnamese manufacturing

We extrude the film, print it and convert it into bags in our own plants, so the certificate of origin reflects where the bag was actually made.

Factory scale

About 5,000 tons a month across all lines, including 2,000 tons of stretch film and poly sheeting, so a growing program does not outrun our capacity.

Standards you already use

Our plants work to Japan’s JIS standard and ISO 9001, and food-contact bags are made from resin that complies with FDA 21 CFR 177.1520.

Your units, your specs

Our export team works in gallons, inches and mil for US buyers, and in litres, millimetres and microns for Europe, so specs do not get lost in conversion.

Terms importers expect

FOB, CFR or CIF from Vietnam, paid by T/T or L/C, with full shipping documents for your customs broker.

About US import duties

US duties on goods from Vietnam changed several times in 2025 and 2026, and the rate for a bag depends on its exact HTS code. We do not publish duty rates on this page because they go out of date quickly. Instead, we give you the HTS code for every item we quote, and your customs broker confirms the duty on the day you import.

One thing we tell every US buyer up front: polyethylene retail carrier bags, the handled T-shirt and checkout bags used by stores, are covered by US anti-dumping and countervailing duty orders on imports from Vietnam and several other Asian countries. Those orders do not cover trash bags and can liners packed and sold for that use, stretch film, poly sheeting, produce bags on roll or poly mailers. If an item you ask about falls under the orders, we will say so before we quote.

How to start without a big risk

  1. 01

Send one item you buy now

The spec sheet, or a photo of the bag and its box. We quote it to the same spec, so you can compare like with like.

  2. 02

    Check a sample

We send a sample made to your spec. Test it on your own line or in your own cans before you commit.

  3. 03

    Place a trial container

Mix several items in one container, each meeting its own minimum, to try more of your range in one shipment.

  4. 04

    Inspect before it ships

We send photos from production and packing, and you or your inspector can check the goods before the container is loaded.
