Lunar New Year 2027: Order Deadlines for Plastic Bags and Film from Vietnam

Lunar New Year 2027 order deadline for plastic bags from Vietnam, Hanpak

Updated 4 November 2026. Lunar New Year 2027 (Tết in Vietnam) falls on Saturday 6 February. The official public holiday runs from 4 to 10 February, and in practice factories, trucking and customs across Vietnam slow down for longer than that, from late January until the middle of February. If you need plastic bags, stretch film or PE film on the shelf in February and March, the time to confirm orders is now. Here is a simple timeline working back from the holiday.

Key dates for Tết 2027

Date What happens
Now – end of November Confirm first orders: artwork, specs and samples approved
15 December 2026 Last practical date to confirm orders that should ship before Tết
January 2027 Busiest month for production and container bookings; freight usually rises
4 – 10 February 2027 Official Tết holiday in Vietnam (Ministry of Home Affairs notice 11483/TB-BNV)
6 February 2027 Lunar New Year’s Day (Mùng 1 Tết)
Mid-February 2027 Production and shipping back to normal

Why mid-December

Our lead time is 4–6 weeks for a first order and 3–4 weeks for a repeat order, counted from the approved artwork and deposit. Add a few days for booking and trucking to the port. Count back from the last week of January and you land in mid-December for a first order with new printing, and late December for a straightforward repeat.

Orders confirmed after that are still possible, but they will probably ship after the holiday, in the second half of February.

Things that slow orders down before Tết

  • Artwork changes. A new design needs a new printing cylinder or plate and a proof. Approve artwork in one round if you can.
  • Sample approval. If you need a pre-production sample of a new size or thickness, allow an extra week for making it and shipping it to you.
  • Freight. Carriers raise rates and space gets tight in January. Book early, and see our freight update for current rates.
  • Resin. Polyethylene prices have been rising since the summer (see our resin price update). Quotes are valid for shorter periods than usual, so confirming early also fixes your price.

A simple plan for importers

  1. Check your stock now. Work out how many weeks of bags and film you have, and add the two to three weeks around Tết and Chinese New Year when very little leaves Asia.
  2. Send repeat orders as one list. T-shirt bags, trash bags, produce rolls and stretch film can share a container. One booking is easier to get than three.
  3. Lock artwork for new items early. New private label designs take the longest. Start those first.
  4. Ask for a shipping date in writing. When you confirm, ask for the planned loading week, so you can book freight and plan your own stock.
