Different types of Sizes, Colors, and Uses of Garbage Bags

Garbage bags come in more varieties than you can imagine. You can get them by the gallon, dimensions, thickness, and color. The smallest garbage bags can generally hold 10-25 litres and the largest ones can carry about 350-370 litres. If you have an exact size in mind, you can buy them by dimensions instead of volume.

And size isn’t the only parameter – you can select them by their thickness as well. Most vendors sell them in three categories – regular trash bags, tough bags, and heavy-duty bags. Let’s break them down for you:

Regular: These bags are used for regular household or office trash. A 30-litre regular bag can hold about 5 kg dry weight.

Tough bagsThey are generally used for industrial applications and offer better puncture and tear resistance. These bags are used to hold sharp objects like needles and glass shards.

Heavy-duty bags: These bags can carry heavy loads and they are thicker than regular bags. They can hold more weight and are also used in industrial applications.

Thickness

If you want to use a trash can liner for regular kitchen trash, 0.90 mil would work fine. And if you want it to hold sharp objects, you would need a thickness of over 1.5 mil.

Several Shades

Garbage bags are also available in different colors, but black is the most common color you’ll see. Some other colors are white, tan, and clear. To keep different types of garbage separate from each other, special colored bags are used (such as green, red, and blue). If you want to be able to see through the garbage, you can choose clear bags. Colors play an important role in their creation as garbage bags can help you identify if the trash inside is recyclable or not.

Most people prefer black garbage bags because they don’t want to see the trash. These bags also block UV rays from entering the bag and decomposing the trash.

Uses Of Garbage Bags

The number one use of garbage bags is to store the trash in one place. Here are some other non-conventional uses for garbage bags:

Keeping things dry: When you’re traveling, you can keep your clothes, shoes, and other things inside a garbage bag to make sure they’re safe and dry.

Waterproofing a bandage: After applying the bandage on a wound, cut a piece of garbage bag and tape it on the bandage. This way, your wound will be protected from water or moisture.

Acting as a cold compress: If someone has minor inflammation or injury, you can put some ice cubes in a garbage bag, and it can work as a cold compress.

Saving rainwater: Dig a hole in the ground and put the bag inside. Use stones to secure the edges of the bag in place. Soon, you’ll collect enough water in the bag, and it can be used in areas where there’s a water shortage.
