Top Uses of Heavy Duty Trash Bag On Trail

Turns out there’s a ton of stuff you can do with a Heavy Duty Trash Bag. Let’s dig a little deeper and you’ll see that this plastic item has many uses in an emergency. Here are 8 ways you can make use of trash bags on your trail.

1, Tarp and tent pad

Keep the bottom of your tent or ground pad dry by placing a few trash bags underneath in case of a downpour. You can also use a stick or pole as an emergency tarp if you’re looking to stay out of the rain.

2, Pack cover

For those of you who’d rather keep the water off your pack, try creating a wrap using the trash bag. This can take some practice, so it’s best to try this at home before attempting it in pouring rain. While it likely won’t be perfect, it can help keep water from completely soaking your bag’s contents.

3, Raincoat/Windbreaker

The trash bag itself isn’t exactly a shelter. But it can serve as a poncho-like cover if you poke a head-sized hole in the bottom and pull it down through my body.

4, Sun shade

Trash bags can be hooked onto branches, or taped into place, to make the shade. After taking the hiking break, carefully fold the trash bag into a small square. It can be used again during the next break period.

5, Stay Warm

If temperatures are low, you can tape trash bags around your legs, arms, and torso that will help retain your body heat. Cut open the sealed end of a trash bag and use duct tape to attach it to the open end of another bag. Then use it like you would a sleeping bag. It will hold in your body heat and help you stay warm.

6, Signal flag

If you have an orange trash bag or another colorful option, tie it to a pole and set it up in an open area to create a signal flag. Tie the bag to the pole at two points and it will act like a windbreaker.

7, Making a rope

When we twist it together, it becomes very reliable. The more plastic bags you twist, the stronger and thicker your rope becomes. But it also becomes less flexible.

8, Wound care

Put some snow or ice in the bag for a cold compress. Add some duct tape and you can seal the wound bandages to keep them cleaner and drier.
